I was just searching for interviews to add to our upcoming Press page (more on that soon) when I came across a little tidbit from earlier this year (January) suggesting that Sienna was/is being considered to play Dusty Springfield in a biopic of the singer:

Harper’s Bazaar UK: She played Andy Warhol’s muse Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl and is due to play the object of Alfred Hitchcock’s obsessive desire Tippi Hedren in an upcoming BBC drama, and now – rumour has it – that Sienna Miller will take on the role of another iconic blonde in a film of Dusty Springfield’s life. That’ll Be the Day writer Ray Connolly has penned a first draft of the script and Miss Miller is top of the list to play the Son of a Preacher singer – watch this space for more info.

I don’t remember reading anything about it at the time, and didn’t post anything about it here. So I decided to do some searching, and came up with a bit more:

Actress Sienna Miller may soon be donning a blonde beehive and panda make-up for the part of Dusty Springfield in a British biopic about the tragic gay star.

Ray Connolly, screenwriter of two music films — That’ll Be The Day and Stardust for producer David Puttnam — has delivered a first draft about the life of the Sixties singer whose hits included The Son Of A Preacher Man and You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me.

And Factory Girl star Sienna is being lined up for the role. Dusty, real name Mary O’Brien, died of cancer at her home in Henley-on-Thames 12 years ago, but her music continues to sell.

Ray tells me: ‘I interviewed Dusty for a newspaper column I did in the Sixties and to my surprise she came out to me. She told me she was a lesbian.

‘But you didn’t talk about that sort of thing then. I was so surprised I buried it in the middle of the article and nobody noticed. Later the News of the World picked it up and outed her.’

It seems – based on who the writer is – that this will be a separate project to the one that Nicole Kidman has been attached to for the last few years.

Besides this information I haven’t found anything else, and there certainly hasn’t been any official announcement of Sienna’s attachment that I can find. So maybe this was just a random internet rumour!? Either way, I’ll be on the lookout for more information, and will keep you posted. Sienna singing in a movie is definitely something I’d like to see … how about you?
